Prosecution close to resting case in Fallis murder trial

Tom Fallis at trial

GREELEY, Colo. — There was contradictory testimony on the witness stand Tuesday from a friend and former co-worker of accused killer Tom Fallis.

Fallis, a former Weld County sheriff’s jail deputy, is on trial for murder in the death of his wife Ashley on New Year’s Day 2012.

Her death was originally ruled a suicide until a FOX31 Denver Problem Solvers investigation uncovered new evidence.

Prosecutors said Steve Speicher remembered Fallis telling him a version of events that was different from what Fallis now claims happened.

He initially told investigators that Fallis told him Ashley Fallis got the gun from up high in the closet. But Fallis now says, and evidence supports, that she got the gun near the bed on the other side of the room.

Speicer was clearly a reluctant witness. He told jurors his memory is fuzzy.

Prosecutors also called a former Evans police detective and supervisor who concluded the death was a suicide.

But witnesses have testified the officers left out and ignored statements indicating it was a murder. Both officers deny any accusations of misconduct or cover-up.

The prosecution said it expects to rest its case Wednesday.

Observers are wondering if Tom Fallis will testify in his own defense when the defense presents its case.
