MORRISON, Colo. — Too often people fall victim to street racing accidents. The Colorado State Patrol has a unique program to help put the problem to an end.

On Wednesday nights, Bandimere Speedway in Morrison opens its track to the public. Drivers from all walks of life are invited to push the limits in whatever kind of car they choose. Hundreds of drivers show up in everything from a Tesla to a Prius.

Drivers are encouraged to go as fast as they can at the track. It is a safe and legal alternative to dangerous and often deadly illegal street racing.

“That way you can get your speed out here in a safe and controlled environment versus out on a roadway where you’re going to be a danger to yourself and there people,” Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said.

CSP says their program, in its 12th year, has helped keep Denver’s streets safer. But Lewis says street racing continues to be a problem.

“Take it to the Track” happens every Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m April through October. The cost is $30 per participant with $5 off coupons available through Colorado State Patrol.
