WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A Westminster couple told the FOX31 Denver Problem Solvers that a neighborhood parking feud has gone too far after the couple found someone fraudulently posted their vehicle for sale on Craigslist.
“I laughed really because I thought it was funny, but my wife didn’t,” Charles Garcia said.
Garcia and his wife, Wanda, were puzzled to find a “for sale” sign placed on their truck one day outside their Westminster home. A short time later, they said, a man showed up at their house.
“He said, ‘Well, so what do you want for the truck?’ and my husband said, ‘Well, what are you talking about?’ and he said, ‘Well, you posted it on Craigslist,’” Wanda Garcia said.
But the Garcias’ truck is not for sale and they never posted anything on Craigslist. After some searching, they found the posting that showed a photo of their vehicle and listed their home address.
“It says ‘nice truck, make an offer,’” Wanda Garcia said.
The Garcias have lived at the Newton Street address for more than 20 years and they said they only recently started having problems.
Their truck is too large to fit in the garage, so they typically park it in their driveway. But the truck blocks a portion of the sidewalk and a neighbor recently complained.
So the Garcias began parking the truck in the public parking spaces across the street from their home. It’s the only other place they can legally park on the narrow street. The city only allows parking on the right side.
Yet the couple received more complaints from neighbors upset that the truck was parked in front of their homes.
“People think that those are their parking spaces, but it’s public parking,” Wanda Garcia said.
Even though the Problem Solvers confirmed with the community HOA that the Garcias are correct, and posted signs show parking is only allowed on the right side of the street, the Garcias said the parking situation has sparked a neighborly feud.
And they believe it was one of their neighbors who posted their vehicle for sale on Craigslist to spite them.
“It makes me scared,” Wanda Garcia said. “It makes me afraid that it could evolve into something even more.”
Wanda Garcia showed the Problem Solvers emails with Craigslist, which took down the post. But they are left to wonder what might happen next.
“Who do you do?” Garcia said. “What would you do? I’m scared that they might do something to my truck too.”
Police said it’s tough to prove who might have posted the vehicle on Craigslist.
