LONE TREE, Colo. –Residents of an upscale Lone Tree apartment complex say they’re still having problems with rats, three weeks after the concerns at the Metropolitan first came to light.
The U.S. Postal Service temporarily stopped delivering their mail because of rats around their mailboxes.
The postal service did start delivering the mail again almost right away but residents said that’s far from dealing with the rat problem.
They said the problem is still there.
“They’re out at the trash dumpster, they live in the walls of the mailboxes,” said Suzanne Gomez, who has lived there for three years.
It got so bad the postal service posted a sign telling residents mail was being held until the problem was fixed.
That move prompted the management of the apartment complex to board up holes near mailboxes.
“It’s horrible,” Gomez said. “I don’t even know what word to describe it but we encounter rats in this complex every day.”
Gomez showed where she said rats chewed electrical wires in her car for a second time, along with the $411 receipt from a dealer who repaired it the first time.
“I can’t afford to take it back to get the wires replaced so I put all this electrical tape every single spot where they chewed again,” she told Problem Solvers as she showed her car engine.
“They’ve tried to hide the problem but not really fix the problem,” said a woman who didn’t want her name used.
She and others again told Problem Solvers the rats are nesting near a pond in the complex.
“You can see them swimming down there,” she said. “I think they’re fat. If they would get rid of that issue I think that would probably solve a lot of other issues.”
Residents said they see rats in the parking garage and around the dumpsters near the mailboxes.
Staff at the leasing office referred us to corporate management.
“We continue to work closely with vendors to proactively manage the situation so our residents, their guests and individuals including United States Postal Service employees always have a safe and pleasant experience at Metropolitan at Lincoln Station,” the corporate management said in a statement.
But residents said the monthly pest control fee they pay is not getting the problem resolved.
