CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — The investigation into the New Year’s Eve rifle ambush that left Douglas County sheriff’s deputy Zackari Parrish dead and four others injured has concluded.
Even though detectives knew who the killer was right away, documenting the complex and chaotic events at Matthew Riehl’s home took eight months.

Hundreds of pieces of new evidence were released Thursday. Crime scene photos reveal the chaos inside Riehl’s Highlands Ranch apartment.
There were more than 100 bullet holes in the apartment. Other images include pictures of the door Riehl allegedly fired through with his gun when Zach Parrish was killed.
