DENVER — The FOX31 Denver Problem Solvers helped a widow who was battling her bank for two years.
She was trying to get Wells Fargo to give her the death benefits from her late husband. On Wednesday, Sharon Pallatt got the results she’d been waiting for.
She said she got the run-around at the bank for more than two years about her late husband’s IRA account. She was frustrated because she was the beneficiary on the account.
“I’m just trying to get the money out and it’s been, ‘You’ll get the money by this date.’ I didn’t get it. ‘OK, it’ll be ready by this date.’ I didn’t get it. ‘Oh you need to fill out this paperwork. You need to fill out that paperwork.'”
FOX31 Denver’s Tammy Vigil met with Pallatt last week and then made a call to Wells Fargo. In fact, she made a number of phone calls. Vigil paid a visit in person, but an employee told her to call someone else. So, she kept calling on Pallatt’s behalf.
“I’m just trying to make ends meet and that money will help me,” Pallatt said.
Wednesday, Sharon got a delivery from Wells Fargo.
“My hopes have been up so much through the two years that I’m like yes can this finally be it?”
Then she opened the envelope.
“Oh my goodness, oh my goodness. They kept their word and it’s the right amount,” Pallatt said.
Her two-year ordeal with the bank and her late husband’s account was finally over.
“I can’t thank FOX News enough for caring about me to take this on so I can get it resolved. Thank you guys so much.”
The money will help her move on and make ends meet.
Here’s how you can avoid finding yourself in a similar situation. Financial advisers say make sure your beneficiary and estate planning documents are up to date.
Also, retitle your account to a Transfer on Death. That will pass the account on to your beneficiaries.
