DENVER — It was a resounding victory for Republican Darryl Glenn on Tuesday night, defeating four opponents in the race to decide who will take on Sen. Michael Bennet in November.

“It was a great feeling because it’s nice when you work hard,” Glenn said. “We believed we were going to win.”

Glenn’s victory caps a meteoric rise in Republican state politics. Glenn went from being a no-name with few staff members a few months ago to being one of the biggest names — delivering electric speeches at the state convention and receiving the endorsement of Sen. Ted Cruz.

Glenn, who wants to defund Planned Parenthood and Obamacare, reiterated Wednesday that he would also not support Mitch McConnell as the Republican Senate leader.

Some are criticizing Colorado Republicans for the pick, worrying Glenn will not be able to raise the amount of money to compete against Bennet’s army of staff.

“I think when you show that you have a vision broader than one party people will rally behind you,” Glenn said.

He has this message for his critics.

“Call me up, invite me out for some coffee,” he said.

In regards to whether he would campaign alongside Donald Trump on Friday, Glenn said, “I’m campaigning with everyone. … I will speak at every rally.”
