DENVER – Denver police are asking for the public’s help finding a suspect who kidnapped a child.
It happened about 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Elmendorf Park in the Montebello neighborhood.
“We had a juvenile who was walking in the area of East Elmandorf and Scranton Street when a man in a car pulled up, approached the victim, forced the victim into his vehicle and left the area,” Denver police spokesman Doug Schepman said.
Police said the suspect had the victim for about two hours before dropping off the victim in the general area where the child was taken.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-30s. He was wearing a black coat with a hood, blue jeans, black tennis shoes and a dark colored baseball-style hat. The suspect’s car is described as a dark-colored sedan with tinted windows and leather seats.
Police are urging parents to keep a close eye on their children after the abduction, though Schepman said investigators believe it was an isolated incident.
“While it is obviously concerning and folks should take the appropriate amount of caution to ensure their safety, we don’t believe that this is a rash of kidnappings in that area,” Schepman said.
The corner where the child was taken is near a very popular neighborhood park. Sunday afternoon, dozens of children played football and soccer, and were on the playground. The park is surrounded by an elementary school and a lot of homes.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
