DENVER — Two burglary suspects were arrested Wednesday, accused of stealing Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware’s Super Bowl ring from his Cherry Creek apartment.
The Denver Police Department said the arrests were thanks to tips generated by clear pictures of the suspects from Ware’s video surveillance system.
Ware’s prized Super Bowl 50 ring and other valuables were swiped from his apartment on Monday.
“The place I live in is so secure, but you never know. Where there’s a will, there’s a way and they found a way to get in there,” Ware said before the arrests during a Wednesday news conference.
Police said they received many tips from a Crime Stoppers bulletin showing still pictures generated from hidden cameras inside Ware’s apartment.
“Undoubtedly, because they saw these pictures on the television and the newspapers, they called us and gave us the type of information the investigators needed,” Denver police spokesman John White said.
Under arrest are Billy McCaslin, 40, and Sergio Irreza, 31. Both men are no strangers to police. McCaslin has six previous arrests — two for trespassing and child abuse. Irreza has been arrested twice on misdemeanor charges, including assault.
“I’m just glad I wasn’t in there when he was in there,” Ware said. “I would’ve sacked him. I really would’ve did that — the both of them.”
The two were arrested Wednesday afternoon in Commerce City. They’re accused of breaking into Ware’s apartment during Monday night’s football game while Ware was at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Ware tweeted about the incident the next day, leading to a police investigation. Even before the arrests, Ware took time to thank fans for spreading pictures of the suspects and helping Denver police get the accused perpetrators off the street.
Ware extended his thanks to Denver police on Twitter while also tweeting, “Don’t mess with Broncos Country.”
