FOUNTAIN, Colo. — A woman driving a stolen car hit and killed another woman Monday who was in the crosswalk outside of the entrance to a Wal-Mart store in Fountain.

It happened at the store on South Highway 85/87 at about 11:20 a.m. The victim was 67 years old.

Fountain police said the driver, 26-year-old Rebecca J. Champigny was driving through the store’s parking lot in a stolen 2015 gray Hyundai Sonata when when she hit the woman.

“The driver, after striking the pedestrian, continued across Camden Blvd and collided with a parked car in a parking lot at 200 Plaza Blvd. Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor,” a police statement said. “The driver, Champigny, was apprehended, arrested, and charged with multiple charges including vehicular homicide, accident involving death duties, and motor vehicle theft.”

She was being held in the El Paso County Jail.
