Petition gets 1,000 signatures asking DA to charge couple in death of man over parking spot

Mateo Martinez

GREELEY, Colo. — Supporters of Mateo Martinez, the Greeley man who died in a fight over a parking spot, have reached their goal of 1,000 online signatures.

Their petition is asking the Weld County District Attorney to file criminal charges against the couple involved.

The petition started after FOX31 Denver aired a story last week about Martinez, who died two days ago.

The 55-year-old got in a fight with Doug and Stacy Glaze after parking in front of their home on a public street in Ault, CO, north of Greeley, last October.

Doug Glaze told police that Martinez’s truck blocked his view of a high school football game across the street.

Police cited all three adults with disorderly conduct.

When Martinez lost consciousness six weeks later due to bleeding on his brain, police told the Martinez family it would be double jeopardy to re-arrest the Glaze’s because they had already paid a fine of $150 each.

The Weld County District Attorney now says this is not a case of double jeopardy and is reviewing the investigation to see if felony charges should be filed.

The funeral for Mateo Martinez is this Friday.
