DENVER — The Colorado Department of Corrections has fired Parole Director Tim Hand, officials confirmed Thursday.

Hand was placed on leave May 22. His office had come under increasing scrutiny after the murder of Department of Corrections chief Tom Clements, likely at the hands of parolee Evan Ebel. Ebel is believed to have cut off his court-mandated tracking bracelet a week before the killing, but no warrant was issued for his arrest until after Clements was dead.

Critics also claimed Hand’s office reduced supervision on other parolees as a cost-saving measure.
