ARVADA, Colo. —Sherown Campbell had just earned his Masters from Regis University back in January of 2014, so he treated himself to a vacation with friends in San Diego. While there, some harmless horseplay turned ugly.
“My friend had his legs around my head and we fell off the couch, I landed—just wrong—and wound up with breaks of my C4 and 5 vertebrate,” said the former cheerleader and track star at Highlands Ranch.
Now, a year and a half later Campbell is still working on getting feeling back in his body, following spinal fusion to repair the breaks.
“There are so many things I want to do with my kids—2 & 5 years of age—so, for me getting my mobility back is critical,” said Campbell.
As fate would have it, while down in Manitou Springs at a birthday party, Sherown decided to test out his new use of his arms and legs, by climbing the Incline.
“I don’t know what I was thinking… I had on slip on DC shoes, no laces for the more than 2,000 foot incline climb,” said Campbell. “With arm supports, my wife and friends, I was able to make it up—the normal 30 minute climb—in about four hours (another four to comedown),” said Campbell.
He doesn’t know if he will ever be 100% again, but said as long as he can romp a bit with his kids, he will adjust to his condition just fine. Sherown also said he can’t wait to hit a 14er again, in the very near future.
