Organizers of this weekend’s 4-20 rally are changing location to avoid extra costs

DENVER — The Denver 4-20 rally will happen in Civic Center Park for another day.

Organizers said they plan on holding the actual smoke-in on Monday at another location.

Denver Parks said they’ve worked with the 4-20 group to allow the smoke-in on Monday at Civic Center Park.

But organizers said they don’t have the money to pay for Port-A-Potties and the clean up.

They will use another permit to hold a political rally across the street at Lincoln Park.

“To say that the city wants to charge money we have never been looking to charge them money in fact they wanted to spend money to have their event last another day so my question is whether or not it’s really about free speech or about them being able to generate money with their special event,” Said Jeff Green from Denver Parks.

The city also required a plan on safety and security which organizers did not provide.

So instead, organizers said they’re moving Monday’s rally across the street, to avoid the additional costs of clean up and porta potties.

Denver Police issued 60 citations at Saturday’s 4-20 event in Civic Center Park.
