DENVER — Moving can be stressful even under the best of circumstances, but a 27-year-old woman is dealing with her worst nightmare after someone stole her moving truck and everything she owned inside.
She was moving to Denver from Indianapolis.
Amber Schonhoft said her U-Haul trailer was stolen after she woke up at Denver’s Timbers Hotel off Interstate 70 and and Peoria Street last week. The trailer contained an estimated $15,000 worth of furniture, electronics, clothes and valuables.
“It hurts. You feel violated, people shouldn’t feel that way,” Schonhoft said.
The truck was later found abandoned in a pond in Brighton. Investigators have not said if they have a detailed description of the suspect.
FOX31 Denver contacted the Timbers hotel but have not heard back from management about the incident.
With her brother J.T. by her side, Schonhoft is trying to make the best of a bad situation. Friends are donating clothes and her roommate is trying to help.
The family is asking people to donate via an online fundraising campaign.
“It kinda’ restored my faith in humanity to see how many people reached out. People I haven’t spoken to in years,” she said.
Schonhoft has contacted her insurance company but because of complications involving the U-Haul truck, she’s not expected to receive much, if any, coverage on her stolen property.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the Denver Police Department.
