PARKER, Colo. — The driver who crashed into a store in Parker last month, killing a 12-year-old girl, will not face charges, investigators announced Tuesday.
The decision was made by the Parker Police Department.
Rylie Guentensberger, 12, died May 26, more than a month after the crash, her family said in an announcement on Facebook.
Her parents talked about their daughter Tuesday afternoon.
“We can let this beat us down or we can learn from it and grow from it, and we know that’s exactly what Rylie would want from us,” Meghann Guetensberger said.
The car crashed into the RNK Running and Walking store at 13019 S. Parker Road on April 29.
Store owner Jim Browning said the vehicle sped into the parking lot, jumped a median, hit one vehicle, jumped another median and then crashed all the way through the store.
Seven people were injured in the crash.
Police said the driver experienced a medical condition that caused the crash.
“When it happened, there was no hard feelings either way,” Rylie’s father Ziggy Guetensberger said. “Accidents happen.”
“The driver is human, as are we. And Rylie had a very strong faith and we know that she would not fault anyone or anything,” Meghann Guetensberger said.
The family is asking people to hang blue running shoes to remember Rylie instead of sending flowers.
They are also asking for donations in Rylie’s name to the Dumb Friends League because she loved dogs.
There will be a memorial to remember Rylie on June 24 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Philip S Miller Park in Castle Rock. Those attending are asked to wear athletic clothing with a touch of blue, which was Rylie’s favorite color.
Guests are also asked to bring books to donate to a Little Free Library her family will be setting up in her honor.
The accident report has not been finalized and is not available, officials said.
