ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — Police hope cameras from a 7-11 convenience store at West 38th and Irving can help them solve this case.

They say the man who killed Adams County prosecutor Sean May might have been driving through or stopped in this area. Witnesses here at just the right time may be able to identify the person.

This location is only three blocks from where May was shot and killed.

“The fact that this is an unsolved case can cast a shadow over the community as a whole,” Adams County Police said in a release. “But specifically over the law enforcement community.”

Shortly before May was killed in 2008, a defense attorney  told police that May had warned him that family members of someone the man had defended was making threats.

May was murdered on Aug. 27. His wife, Corin, was six months pregnant and is now raising their son on her own.

Investigators quickly checked the backgrounds of more than 4,000 defendants to try to find a connection. Nothing turned up.

Friday morning, a closer look at this surveillance video may help to fill in the missing pieces.

The popular prosecutor was coming home to his wife when he was shot in the head just before 6 p.m. outside his home near West 38th and Irving.

Police released a sketch of the suspect, who was described as a white or Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20’s, about 5-foot-11.

The new surveillance video shows these possible witnesses — not suspects — who were at the 7-11 just after the murder happened.

At the time, police said talking to them would be critical to the case. It still is.

The surveillance video reveals the SUV the killer is believed to have been driving. It also reveals a black Nissan Frontier extended cab truck. Investigators hope the driver can help in the case
