New protected bike lanes open in downtown Denver

DENVER — If we build them, they will ride! This is kind of what the City Transportation Plan suggests, which is why the city is building protected bike lanes on Lawrence and Arapahoe between Auraria Campus and 24th Street.

The lanes uses parked cars about four feet from the curb to buffer a bike lane… ergo protected!

“Research suggests 75% of bikers will use the protected lanes as they are built,” says Mayor Mike Hancock. “We are about offering options to commuters and people coming downtown. From commuter & light rail, to bike trails and paths, we want our transportation options to merge with good health habits that come with riding bikes!”

Those lanes represent two more miles of enhanced bicycle facilities in downtown Denver.
