HALIFAX COUNTY, NC — An Amtrak passenger train hit a truck that was sitting on the tracks in Halifax County, North Carolina Monday. Forty people were hurt according to officials.

The northbound “Carolinian” was on a run from Charlotte to New York City.

The crossing involved in this incident is equipped with gates and railroad-preempted traffic signals at the intersection of U.S. 301 and N.C. 903.
