LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A suspect in the decapitation of a Texas man has been taken into custody in Lakewood as of Monday, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said.

On May 3, the decapitated body of 24-year-old Jubal Dee Alexander was discovered in his truck below the Austin Bayou Bridge near Angleton, Texas. The cause of death has yet to be determined, according to an autopsy by the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office, pending forensic analysis.

Alexander’s head was not located despite extensive search efforts by authorities.

Alexander was working as a contractor at an Ineos plant about 10 miles from where his body was found. Police said Alexander was living out of his truck to save money while working at the plant.

On May 24, a witness came forward and notified the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office that 24-year-old Zachary Lyn Foyt had killed Alexander. The sheriff’s office said information from the witness was verified by comparing tips to information from the investigation not made public.

A subsequent investigation showed Foyt had allegedly fled Brazoria County to Lakewood. A Brazoria County investigative team traveled to Colorado to question Foyt and other local witnesses. All of the information led to the arrest of Foyt.

The motive for the killing is still being determined. There is no information that has led investigators to believe Alexander knew his killer. Authorities said the decapitation is thought to be an attempt at concealing or destroying evidence.

Foyt remains in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting extradition to Texas.  His bail has been set at $5 million.
