PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. — Rapper “Nelly,” whose real name is Cornell Haynes, 40, has been charged with felony drug possession.
His bus was stopped for “failure to display a U.S. Department of Transportation and International Fuel Tax Association sticker,” a news release from Tennessee Highway Patrol said.
The Highway Patrol troopers said they could smell marijuana when they stopped the bus on Saturday morning.
After searching the bus, they found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the release.
Several handguns were also found on the bus.
A convicted felon also on the bus, Brian Jones, 44, was charged with being a felon in possession of a handgun.
The other four passengers on the bus were not charged.
KTVI reported that the bus was probably heading to Nelly’s hometown St. Louis.
Both men charged were taken to Putnam County Jail.
