SHREWSBURY, Pa. — A Pennsylvania state trooper shot a man Thursday night who officials said robbed a Wal-Mart pharmacy.

An employee of the Wal-Mart called police after the robbery. A nearby trooper arrived to find a man with a shotgun just inside the doorway.

Officials said the main raised his shotgun and as the trooper pushed the muzzle of the gun away, both fired a single shot.

The suspect’s shot missed, but the trooper’s bullet hit the man in the chest.

“It’s a very scary situation for everybody involved,” Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Rob Hicks said. “I mean our trooper, the people who were in there shopping, the employees. A very nerve-racking situation. Thank God nobody else was hurt.”

The trooper was not injured. The robbery suspect was taken to York Hospital in unknown condition.
