PETALUMA, Calif. — Amy’s Kitchen, Inc. is voluntarily recalling nearly 74,000 cases of products after one of the company’s organic spinach suppliers warned that it may have sold them contaminated spinach.
The organic spinach may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recalled products were distributed to stores nationwide in the United States and in Canada.
Amy’s Kitchen is not aware of any illnesses related to the products, the company said.
Consumers who have any of the products identified in the chart are urged to dispose of them or return them to the store where they were purchased for an exchange or full refund. Consumers may also call Amy’s at (707) 781-7535.
