The cold front will keep temperatures in the upper 40s from Denver to Boulder to Fort Collins, but the sun could break out in the afternoon.

Snow fell in the mountains, with 2-6 inches accumulating along the I-70 corridor.

Eastbound Interstate 70 was closed at Silverthorne for about an hour because of wintry conditions and multiple crashes, the Colorado Department of Transportation said. It reopened at 6 a.m.

The first freeze of the season in Denver likely will happen Friday morning.

A freeze warning will go up Thursday night to 9 a.m. Friday for the Denver metro area, the Front Range and the eastern Plains as temperatures will plunge into the upper 20s and low 30s under clear skies.

But as the front moves out, sunny and warmer temperatures will return on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 60s and 70s.

The Broncos game looks fantastic, with sunshine and temperatures in the 70s.
