FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The mother of a man fatally shot by police has filed a complaint asking Colorado State University to release unredacted footage of the shooting.
The Coloradoan reports Susan Holmes’ 19-year-old son, Jeremy, was shot by a Fort Collins police officer and a Colorado State University police officer during a confrontation on July 1, 2017.
District Attorney Cliff Riedel cleared the officers of any wrongdoing following an investigation.
Colorado State University officials say the release of the unedited footage of the shooting would be “contrary to the public interest,” citing the graphic nature of the video and safety of the university police officers.
Holmes’ complaint calls the decision not to release the footage “arbitrary and capricious” as well as inconsistent with the law.
CSU had not filed a formal response to the complaint as of Friday, and no hearing has been scheduled.
