Pictures can pay with new photo app

DENVER — They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but with a new app called Scoopshot, it can be worth some money, too.

Now picture this, 20-year-old University of Colorado at Boulder senior Gabi Guneratne snapping shots, using the Scoopshot app, and liking it. “First I’d open the app, then I look at all the contests that are available for today. For example, today one of them is from ‘Where I walk’ so here I would look at the scenic route and then just start taking pictures of a normal walk.”

She then uploads the pics, and hopes other members on Scoopshot vote for her images, because that’s how she makes the “moolah.”

But don’t bank on making much bank. “I’ve been doing this for six months and to date I’ve made $80.” That’s $10 per pic.

But, maybe it’s not all about money. Maybe it’s about getting outside, looking at the colors, capturing beautiful images of life all around us, slices of life most folks overlook.
