DENVER — Millions of Americans logged on to their home computers, work computers, mobile phones and tablets today, taking advantage of “Cyber Monday” deals.
This is typically the biggest online shopping day of the year, but retail experts say Cyber Monday is no longer a one-day affair, rather retailers are extending their online deals into “cyber week” — even “cyber month.”
For millions of people like Tony Omran the hype, the deals and the convenience of Cyber Monday were just too good to pass up.
“There are good deals out there. Just have to take advantage of it,” Omran said.
For Omran, the biggest online shopping day of the year, and the deep discounts advertised, mean he doesn’t have to leave the comfort of his favorite coffee shop corner.
“Online shopping obviously makes it much easier to miss going to the store and dealing with all the traffic,” he said.
Sitting quietly in front of his computer, crowds aren’t an issue.
“I think people have to be fed up with lines, right? You hear about standing in lines overnight or at 3 a.m. That just doesn`t make sense to me. People have to work, people have lives, so I don`t know where they have the time to do that,” he said.
With the click of one button he’s found what he was looking for.
“$50 bucks for some year round tires,” he notes on his more than 50 percent savings.
But gaining traction this year is the attitude of those like Jessie Usry who believe the shopping hype on the Monday after thanksgiving is overrated.
“Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, all of it has been kind of a big sale so I feel like people are just kind of over it by the time Monday comes around,” Usry said.
In fact retailers like Target, Amazon and Walmart are starting to extend their online deals into cyber week, even cyber month, so shoppers like Usry aren’t seeing the jaw-dropping deals they expected.
“The sales really don`t spark me that much. I feel like I can get those deals any time of the year,” she said.
Experts say the deals will keep rolling out, so if you missed the deals on this Cyber Monday, don’t worry, it won’t be your only chance to save.
As of Noon Monday online sales rose almost ten percent compared with last year.
However the number of online shoppers was down year over year.
In total consumers were expected to spend about $2.5 billion by the end of Monday according to the National Retail Federation.
