DENVER — While we all dream of flying in a private jet, like a movie star or the CEO of a Fortune 500 Company, most people think it’s out of their price range. But now, Fresh Jets — a Colorado company — is looking to make flying like the rich and famous way more affordable.
“This is not something I thought I’d get to experience,” said Colin Ferrian, a recent college graduate from Boulder. “I couldn’t even sleep last night I was so excited.”
Using Fresh Jets, Ferrian was able to find a flight home to Phoenix on board a private jet, avoiding what he calls the “headache” of flying on a commercial airline, without breaking the bank.
“They were actually a lot more reasonable than I thought they’d be,” said Ferrian, who says he paid slightly less than a first class ticket for the flight. “It’s something I’ve never done before… It was easy to justify, given the price.”
“We’re opening up private aviation to a larger demographic,” said Johnny Sengelmann, who helped get Fresh Jets off the ground.
Partly because “we’re all fed up with flying commercial,” Sengelmann says he and a business partner began looking at ways to link potential clients with empty-leg flights.
Because about 33% of all charter flights are solo flights to pick up passengers at other locations, Sengelmann figured he could connect the owners of those private planes with those looking to fly in style at a steep discount.
“It’s kind of a dream come true,” said Sengelmann. “It was just an idea, to see where it’s come today, to see people like Colin take advantage of our service, it’s fantastic.”
To take advantage of deals, users sign up to receive e-mails, alerting them of potential flights. The company also lists some of their best deals on their website and offers discounts for bigger groups.
Johnny says the best way to save on a private flight is to book with friends. For example, by lining up eight of your friends, you can book a private flight from Denver to Las Vegas for about $450 each.
