Black Friday anticipation builds; Know your goals to find best shopping approach

Shopping in Denver

DENVER — You got a belly full of turkey and a wallet full of credit cards. Now is the time to formulate your game plan. The cutthroat, elbow jabbing stampeding every man and women for themselves kind of game. We call it, Black Friday.

At Cherry Creek Shopping Center, marketing director Dave Dixon says before you shop, know your shopping goals. “Are you looking for specific things or are you out looking for just good deals?” If it’s something specific, like a door buster, be prepared, go early, and avoid confrontations over items. And dress warm.

Now, if you’re looking for good deals in general, and not something specific, sleep in, take it easy, the deals will still be there. “Folks that are just looking for good values will probably be the people that wait a little into the day knowing there are plenty of good values to be had out there,” Dixon said.

The more you know before you go will save you time and money.

Target stores, for example, have posted online their door busters and sale items for customers to peruse. They have already discounted many items right now.

But for many folks for many reasons, the excitement and sometimes chaos of Black Friday is just irresistible. Some things you just can’t pay for.
