A new report released this week by the Beer Institute shows the beer industry is growing fast. Nationwide, there are 1.75 million jobs compared to 2.7 million jobs in the nursing industry. The nursing industry is one of the largest fields in the country.

In Colorado, the beer industry is growing fast also. Especially the craft beer industry. A new study is expected to be released in three weeks showing substantial growth from 2013 into 2014.

The last study that was done in 2013 showed Colorado’s craft beer industry brought $826 million into our state. The 2014 figures are expected to top $1 billion.

“We are on pace for the last 24 months to opening about a brewery a week in our state,” said Steve Kurowski with the Colorado Brewers Guild.

In terms of jobs, Colorado’s craft beer industry saw a lot of growth with 5,800 jobs logged in 2013. Looking at the bigger picture, 50,000 people are currently working in the craft beer industry nationwide.

Four years ago, the Denver Beer Co. only had two employees. It now has 30.

“In the last five weeks we’ve hired five people,” said Patrick Crawford, one of the brewery’s co-owners.

Nationwide, the beer industry’s economic impact makes up for 1.5% of the U.S. GDP.

While small breweries are seeing big increases, 70% of overall employment in the industry comes from the big brewers like Anheuser-Busch and Coors.​
