LONGMONT, Colo. — It has been six months since an attack in Longmont left a pregnant woman bleeding nearly to death and her baby cut from her womb. Monday, the victim, Michelle Wilkins spoke publicly for the first time on an episode of “Dr. Phil.”

In a calm but disoriented voice, an eight months pregnant Wilkins dialed 911 after being attacked in mid-March and telling dispatchers she needed help.

“Where did she cut you?” asks the police dispatcher.

“A knife. I’m pregnant,” Wilkins responds.

“She cut you in the stomach?”  said the dispatcher.

“Yes, I’m pregnant,” said Wilkins.

Wilkins said despite losing a lot of blood, she wasn’t aware her baby had been cut from her womb.

“I think I had lost so much blood at that point I don’t think I realized,” she said.

Answering a Craigslist ad for free maternity clothes, Wilkins went to see Dynel Lane, who invited her inside.

“Intuitively, I had that sensation, I have everything I need but for fear of being polite I decided to stay.  She actually quickly reached across me and closed the door in front of me,” Wilkins said on the program.

Wilkins remembers Lane hitting her, then a struggle.

“Throws me to the bed, starts suffocating me with a pillow.  I kept saying, ‘Why?  Why are you doing this?  Why?’” she said, describing the struggle inside Lane’s home.

Wilkins said during the attack she told Lane she loved her.

“In that moment, I believed that, that I love her.  So I told her that,” Wilkins said.

Lane’s response: “She stabbed me and said if you love me, you’ll let me do this.  I didn’t know at that point her intention was to take Aurora,” she said.

Rushed to the hospital by first responders, Wilkins was told her attacker and her baby were also there. And for a few short minutes, Wilkins got to hold her daughter Aurora’s lifeless body.

“She was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.  She was perfect.  Those were our first moments as a family,” Wilkins said.

Lane is being held on a $2 million bond as she awaits trial.
