FRUITA, Colo. — More than 100 years ago, a Fourth of July tradition began on Colorado’s Western Slope in Fruita and it’s still going strong today.
Climbers from Mesa County Technical Search and Rescue Team used their holiday to raise the American flag on Independence Monument, a 450-foot tall sand stone formation in Colorado National Monument.
