ARVADA, Colo. — A massive fire in Arvada rips through a multi-use office building at 64th and Wadsworth. One person had to be taken to the hospital suffering from injuries as a result.
The fire broke out just before 10 a.m. at the Scenic Heights Professional Building.
Crews from Arvada, Adams County and Westminster Fire were all called in to help fight the flames.
Arvada’s Deputy Fire Marshall, Deanna Harrington said three aerial trucks, 4 engines and 50 fire personnel were on hand.
“This is a very significant fire. We’ve had to rely on or neighbors. Westminster fire is here giving us a hand. We’ve got most of our resources on this fire at this time,” said Harrington.
Seven hours after the fire broke out, firefighters remained on scene putting out hotspots that continued to pop up.
The smoke and flames attracting onlookers from miles away.
“Its amazing how much water they’re throwing on it and its still just burrowing out of there,” said Tim Cooper, one of those who stopped to see the flames.
“Probably the worse fire we’ve had in Arvada in years. Nothing happens in Arvada and Westminster like this so definitely we’re going to stop and look,” said Stevie Songstad who saw the flames from across the street as they started.
The condition of the person taken to the hospital is not being given out.
Arvada says this is the biggest fire they’ve had in the city in decades.
The building is a total loss.
The department says they will now have to rent heavy equipment like a crane in order to finish the investigation into how the fire started.
