BRIGHTON, Colo. — A man has been sentenced to 32 years in prison after shooting at a Northglenn police officer multiple times during a traffic stop.

Two officers were conducting a traffic stop at the Diamond Shamrock gas station at 11195 Huron St. on Dec. 19, 2015, when they discovered the passenger, Adrian Brandon Moya, had an outstanding warrant for felony menacing and forgery, according to a statement by prosecutors Monday.

Moya got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the officer as he tried to run away, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Moya hit the officer twice — but the officer was protected by his ballistic vest.

The officer shot back at Moya and hit him multiple times, according to prosecutors. Moya was treated for his wounds and arrested.

Moya pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder as part of a plea agreement that required a sentence of 20 to 32 years in prison.

District Judge Katherine Delgado sentenced Moya to the maximum of that range at a sentencing hearing Friday in Adams County District Court.
