LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The man found shot to death in a car in Lakewood on Saturday night has been identified as 44-year-old Phillip Todd Peny, the Lakewood Police Department said Sunday.

Police did not provide any other information about the victim.

Police said they received multiple reports of shots fired in the neighborhood at West Ninth Avenue and Allison Street about 7 p.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had crashed through the front fence of a home.

The driver appeared to have been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

On Saturday night, investigators said they did not believe there was any danger to the public.

The investigation is ongoing and is being treated as a homicide. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 303-987-7111.
