Man says $2 million treasure hidden in Rocky Mountains; can you find it?

EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. — What if we told you there is a treasure chest worth $2 million dollars hidden somewhere in the Rocky Mountains?

A millionaire from Santa Fe, New Mexico claims he hid a treasure chest full of gold and jewels in the Rocky Mountains. In order to find the treasure, he wrote a poem which he calls his ‘treasure map’ and he said it will lead you right to it.

“I was walking back to my car and nobody around any place and a strange feeling came over me. I told myself out loud ‘Forrest Fenn did you really do that?’ and I started laughing and I said ‘yeah I did that,’” the millionaire Forrest Fenn said.

The only thing we know for sure is that the treasure is hidden in the Rocky Mountains north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He said it’s either in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming or Montana.

Fenn said he knows the treasure is still there but won’t say how he knows.

One person we found searching for the treasure is Amy Sweitzer. She thinks she’s solved Fenn’s poem and believes the treasure is in Colorado.

“Its like searching for an Easter Egg,” said Sweitzer.

“I never stopped believing that you start at the cross,” said Sweitzer referring to Holy Cross mountain. That’s where she believes the treasure is hidden.

But after searching on 17 different occasions, Sweitzer came up empty.

“It is discouraging not being able to find it,”

“We don’t do stuff like this where we live. We don’t get out and hike or explore and just being able to do that here, we’ve enjoyed it” Sweitzer said.

Sweitzer is from Texas and hasn’t given up hope that she will find the treasure. But getting people up off the couch and into the woods was exactly what Fenn intended.

“It’s not a hoax, It’s out there just waiting for someone to find it.”
