ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested a 24-year-old man after they made an unbelievable discovery: the dismembered remains of a woman in the back seat of his car.

The man, Ari Liggett, is suspected of killing his own mother. He is in jail without bond pending the filing of a charge of first-degree murder.

Family members reported Liggett and his 56-year-old mother Beverly Liggett missing from their home in the 6200 block of E. Peakview Ave. in Centennial on Monday.

“Bev was a very smart person, very lovely and very warm and giving woman.  She spent her whole life looking after other people,” says Seth Masiz, the victim’s fiance.  “As a Special Ed. teacher and then as a registered nurse;  She spent her whole life looking after Ari, and she didn’t deserve this.”

The suspect’s father says his son has battled mental illness.

Officers in Greenwood Village found the man’s vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.

They say he took off and crashed his car at Orchard Rd. and S. Dayton St. Police captured him after a short foot chase.

“The investigation by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has determined that the dismembered remains of a deceased adult female were located in the back seat of the vehicle that was being operated by Liggett,” says Sheriff Grayson Robinson.

Investigators haven’t released the identity of the woman yet.

They conducted a search of the home on Peakview and found what they believe is liquid potassium cyanide, a highly toxic chemical.

Robinson says there is no connection between this suspect and the Jessica Ridgeway investigation.
