CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — Eric Henderson, the man accused of driving drunk and killing a Colorado State Patrol trooper in November, pleaded guilty Wednesday to vehicular homicide and tampering with evidence.
Henderson, 52, a retired Army colonel, faced multiple charges in the death of trooper Jaimie Jursevics, 33, who was run down Nov. 15 on Interstate 25 south of Castle Rock as she was directing traffic around another crash.
Investigators said Henderson was driving home from a Broncos game drunk when he hit Jursevics and then kept driving. He had his bail cut from $1 million to $500,000 over the objections of District Attorney George Brauchler and has been free since Nov. 18.
He was facing charges of vehicular homicide, failure to remain at the scene of a deadly accident, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and careless driving causing death. He pleaded guilty to two counts.
He could get four to 12 years for vehicular homicide and 12 to 18 months for tampering with evidence when he is sentenced June 28. However, the judge could also sentence him to probation without any prison time.
Jursevics left behind a husband and a young child.
Henderson was a colonel with the the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command. He retired in June 2013 and was honored during a ceremony at The Club on Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.
Henderson was presented with the Legion of Merit for his service in the command.
