Stray bullet hits woman in Zumba class

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A shooting targeted at a car in a trailer park ended up injuring a woman in a building across the street after she was hit by a stray bullet, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

Multiple deputies responded to a shooting near Sheridan Boulevard and 53rd Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and discovered shots were fired from Sheridan Estates mobile home park.

Witnesses told police the suspect fired shots targeting a specific car, but those bullets ended up striking a car at a stop light and a woman at a Zumba class in the building across the street.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called for a woman with a gunshot wound. The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Jeffco Sheriff’s Office said no one else was injured in the incident.

ACSO and JCSO said they have limited suspect information at this time.

Due to the activity, southbound Interstate 76 and Sheridan were temporarily closed. The roadway was reopened at 12:08 p.m.

Deputies said there was no known threat to the public as they continued to search for the suspect.
