DENVER (KDVR) — A high-profile murder case in Pueblo took an unexpected twist last week when a woman who was supposed to testify for the prosecution, Roxann Martinez, was killed in Denver.

Martinez’s death deepens the mystery into who killed Kelsie Schelling in 2013 while she was eight weeks pregnant. Her boyfriend, 28-year-old Donthe Lucas is charged with murder.

Schelling was on her way to visit Lucas in Pueblo when she was last seen. Her body was never found and he has pleaded not guilty.

Martinez, 31, was found shot to death last Thursday night at intersection of East Kenyon Drive and South Wabash Street in the Hampden South neighborhood.

What kind of testimony Martinez was supposed to give for the prosecution is not clear.

Jeff Chostner, the 10th judicial District Attorney, told FOX31 that, “Roxann was endorsed as a prosecution witness. I can’t speak further as the matter is under investigation.”

“Investigators are aware of her connection to that trial, but at this time do not think her death is connected to that case,” Denver police told FOX31.

The medical examiner said died of a gunshot wound.
