Black Mountain Fire updates: Burning 150 acres, pre-evacuations issued

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) – A fire sparked Sunday afternoon just west of the East Troublesome burn area and northeast of Kremmling.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies and crews from Kremmling Fire responded to a report of smoke on Black Mountain off of County Road 2 near Big Horn Park in Grand County just before 1 p.m.

The sheriff’s office said there are no evacuations at this time.

UPDATE (Aug. 30, 4:05 a.m.): The Grand County Sheriff’s Office shared new video on Twitter of the Black Mountain Fire. Multiple crews and engines have responded to the fire.

UPDATE (Aug. 29, 10:35 p.m.): Grand County Sheriff’s Office said the fire is burning 150 acres.

UPDATE (Aug. 29, 8:00 p.m.): A Type III Incident Management Team has been ordered for the fire that is burning west of Slide Mountain.

A forest area closure is expected to be put in place on Monday and the cause of the fire is unknown.

A large air tanker and helicopter are working the fire with multiple ground crews. Authorities say, “This is expected to be an extended duration fire.”

UPDATE (Aug. 29, 6:41 p.m.): Pre-evacuations have been issued around the Black Mountain Fire near Hot Sulphur Springs.

UPDATE (Aug. 29, 5:45 p.m.): Winds have caused the fire to grow and move south and southeast. Ground and air assets are being assigned to the fire. Control of the fire has been handed over to the National Forest Service.

Firefighting crews have requested a helicopter with a bucket.
