LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A wildfire sparked in Poudre Canyon on Sunday and several crews worked to contain what has been named the Arrowhead Fire.

Highway 14 in Poudre Canyon from Arrowhead Lodge east to Riverside Drive, including residences on Riverside Drive, was under a voluntary evacuation, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said. Around 8 p.m., that evacuation order was lifted.

Firefighters had to cross a river to get to the flames near Highway 14 and the Arrowhead area.

The Canyon Lakes Ranger RD said in a tweet that the fire is burning approximately 7 to 8 acres as of 2:30 p.m. By 4:30 p.m., the fire was reportedly 50% contained.

According to the LCSO, crews will continue to battle the fire in challenging terrain to complete containment by Monday but no significant growth is expected overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, northeast and north-central Colorado, which includes Larimer County, were under a hazardous weather outlook until late afternoon.

“Over the mountains and higher foothills, a few wind gusts up to 60 mph may occur through the early afternoon,” the NWS site said.

Cache La Poudre Elementary served as an evacuation center but a Red Cross volunteer told FOX31 no one used the facility.

Resident Karen Fischer told FOX31 she is relieved the fire is under control.

“When I could see the Front Range from my driveway that was freaky but these little spot fires, I’m just more concerned about the community,” she said.
