DENVER — The Denver Police Department said one of the three people injured in a hit-and-run crash Thursday night has been pronounced dead at a hospital.
DPD said the victim was female. She was one of three adults struck by a vehicle at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Quebec Street Thursday. The other two victims were a male and a female. Police did not provide an update on the other two victims’ conditions.
Police say the three pedestrians were crossing the street in a crosswalk, when the suspect blew through a red light.
“They had the right of way, and this individual took that right of way away from them,” says Sonny Jackson with Denver Police.
Witnesses tell police the car didn’t even brake, and instead kept going northbound on Quebec.
“Any time you have someone hitting someone, and not stopping, not rendering aid, that’s a heartless act,” says Jackson.
Jackson says witnesses were not able to get a good look at the car’s license plate. Police believe the car is a dark, or black Cadillac sedan.
“One significant thing about this car, it’s probably going to have front end damage, possibly even windshield damage from striking these individuals,” he says. “If your neighbor’s car all of a sudden has this type of damage, let us know.”
Public records show there have been at least 11 hit-and-runs at that intersection since 2013.
Deadly hit-and-runs continue to increase in Denver, with four in 2016, seven last year, and 14 so far this year.
