LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Update, April 19: The suspect killed has been identified as Aerie F. Sadler, 25, of Fort Collins.

The coroner found he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Original: Larimer County deputies shot and killed a domestic violence suspect Thursday at the county landfill.

A woman had reported to police Thursday morning that the suspect, identified only as a male, had broken into her home and was threatening violence against her and her children, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. The woman knew the suspect.

Deputies “tracked him to the Larimer County Landfill and attempted to contact him at approximately 1:55 p.m., at which time two deputies fired their weapons hitting the suspect,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release. “Deputies rendered aid to the suspect and called for emergency medical services to respond. A handgun was recovered next to the suspect.”

The suspect was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The Sheriff’s Office said he was not a landfill employee. The coroner will release his identity and cause and manner of death.

No deputies were hurt.
