Amber Alert issued for missing Sheridan 17-year-old

Samantha Herrera and Rodney Brown.

SHERIDAN, Colo. — An Amber Alert was issued late Tuesday night for a missing teenager after she was driven away by her estranged boyfriend, the Sheridan Police Department said.

Officers responded to a Pet Smart parking lot at 3720 River Point Parkway, in the area of West Hampden Avenue and Santa Fe Drive, at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday on a report of two females screaming for someone to call 911.

A witness said Herrera was trying to get out of the car of her boyfriend, 18-year-old Rodney Brown, after a physical struggle.

About 11:35 p.m., police issued the Amber Alert and asked the public to lookout for a 2000 white Honda Accord with Colorado license plates OMB-236.

The vehicle was found on Wednesday evening, but Samantha and Rodney are still missing. It is unknown what their method of travel is, authorities said.

Authorities did not say where the vehicle was found.

Police said Brown physically prevented Herrera from getting out of the vehicle and drove away. There is a court-ordered protection order prohibiting Brown from contacting Herrera, police said.

Herrera is described as being white, about 5-foot-6 and 100 pounds with brown eyes and long brown hair.

Brown is described as being white, 5-foot-11 with blue eyes and short brown hair. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Brown and Herrera are believed to be in the northern Denver metro area, police said.

The Northglenn Police Department said it investigated a call it received that a blue 2017 Nissan Altima might be involved in the Amber Alert.

Police checked for the vehicle, but were not successful.

Anyone who sees Herrera or Brown is asked to call 911 or Sheridan police. An arrest warrant for Brown has been issued, police said.

Editor’s Note: Authorities originally said Brown is 19 years old. He is, in fact, 18 years old. This information has been corrected.
