JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Deputies in Jefferson County were searching for a shooting suspect that left a woman with life-threatening injuries, but now, she is in stable condition and the suspect was found dead.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was in stable condition around 6:47 p.m. on Saturday. A large law enforcement presence was also reported at the same time on the 10400 block of West 44th Avenue in Wheat Ridge.

A few hours later at 9:16 p.m., a tweet published by the JCSO said that the suspect had been located and that there was no longer a threat to the public.

What’s known about this Saturday morning shooting

Earlier on Saturday, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said they were in the area of 3600 South Sheridan, which is near Bear Creek Park.

JCSO said a suspect shot a woman multiple times around 8:06 a.m. and she was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect then fled on foot to a nearby field. Deputies believed the suspect was known to the victim.

Deputies set up a perimeter and issued a shelter-in-place to nearby residents in the Bear Valley apartment complex. The shelter-in-place has since been lifted but the suspect had still not been located at the time.

The suspect is described as a white man with a heavy build. He is 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing a hat, brown jacket and jeans.

The suspect was initially last seen running northbound through a field near Sheridan Boulevard but again, deputies with the JCSO have located him as of Saturday night.
