DENVER (KDVR) — A woman is being investigated for first-degree murder after an 8-year-old was killed. Police have confirmed to FOX31 that the person responsible was the boy’s great aunt.

Susan Baffour, 61, was arrested in connection to the homicide.

On Friday, Denver Police reported the incident as a homicide and on Saturday morning confirmed it was a homicide.

Baffour is being held for investigation of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of a person 12 years or younger.

Final charges for Baffour will be made by the Denver District Attorney’s Office and the medical examiner will release the identity of the victim and cause of death.

A northeast Denver neighborhood reacted to the news of the child’s death as Jo Thomas took a moment to contemplate a chilling crime at her complex.

“It’s so hard to believe and hard to accept,” said Thomas. “You wonder why people have to treat our innocent children like this I mean, they didn’t ask to be here with us. I don’t understand what’s happening to this world? I really don’t.”

Thomas said a lot of families live here including Jakob Barnhart.

“Pretty shocked you know, like hearing something like that my condolences definitely go out to their family you know, hearing about something like this. It’s very sad,” Barnhart said.
