LAKEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — The Lakewood Police Department investigated a deadly motorcycle crash Sunday on 6th Avenue between Wadsworth Boulevard and Sheridan Boulevard.
According to LPD, a Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling in the eastbound lanes of 6th Avenue at around 6:45 p.m. Sunday.
At that time, an unknown dark-colored Audi attempted to make a lane change forcing the motorcycle into a white SUV traveling in the next lane.
LPD said the motorcyclist hit the white SUV, lost control and went down on the right shoulder of the road.
The rider was pronounced dead on scene. LPD has not released the identity of the motorcyclist but confirmed he was an adult male and he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
LPD said it was unknown if the Audi made contact with the motorcycle during the lane charge or just forced the motorcycle out of its lane.
Regardless, LPD is calling this a hit-and-run after the driver of the Audi failed to remain on scene. The car is described as a newer vehicle with LED headlights.
As a result of the investigation, eastbound 6th Avenue was shut down at Wadsworth Boulevard. People were asked to avoid the area.
Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the hit-and-run or who may have been on 6th Ave. at the time of the crash to contact the Lakewood Police Department.
