AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) – An on-duty Aurora officer in a police car hit and killed a pedestrian around 11:25 Monday night.

The crash happened at South Nucla Street and East Quincy Avenue. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene, according to the Aurora Police Department.

The 37-year-old Aurora officer, whose name has not been released, was traveling eastbound on East Quincy Avenue in a marked 2018 Ford police SUV and was not responding to a call at the time.

The officer advised dispatch he had hit a pedestrian and requested medical assistance to the location. However, the 37-year-old man from Salt Lake City who was hit was declared dead when first responders got there.

In its initial investigation, Colorado State Patrol found the pedestrian was dressed in dark clothes and lying in the eastbound lanes of East Quincy Avenue before he was hit. The man appeared intoxicated as he was in a nearby store before the crash, according to CSP.

No charges have been filed against the involved officer.
