WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (KDVR) — A Wheat Ridge officer stabbed several times on Wednesday by the driver of a stolen U-Haul suffered possible life-changing injuries.

Officer Allan Fischer and Corporal Kevin Lui responded to a call just after midnight about an aggressive driver of a U-Haul that had hit a fence in Prospect RV park located at 11600 W. 44th Ave., the police report said. Fischer discovered the U-Haul was stolen and approached Andre Jones, the driver, still inside the truck.

When the officers attempted to remove Jones from the driver’s seat, he resisted and struck Fischer in the face, neck and chest before Lui saw a knife in Jones’ hand, the report said. Lui pulled his gun and eventually got Jones restrained after he dropped the knife.

Fischer underwent surgery for the injuries and court documents said it is believed that he likely suffered permanent nerve damage to his facial muscles.

Jones is wanted on a nonextraditable warrant out of Michigan for probation violation on an assault charge, the document said. His criminal past includes violent crimes and weapons charges.

The court document said Jones is mentally ill and was not taking his medication. He’s being held at the Jefferson County jail on charges of first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault.
